Pre-launch · in beta

Never hear another
commercial during the game.

AdBencher is a small app for your Android TV box. It mutes the TV when the ad break starts and brings the sound back when play resumes.

Free during the beta, maybe a small activation charge someday. No signup form, no tracking. Just an email.

How it works

Everything happens inside the box.

On-device AI spots the ad break and controls your TV over HDMI-CEC. No extra hardware, no cloud service, no account.

It errs on the side of the game

AdBencher is tuned to catch the whole ad break without ever muting live play. It would rather let a few seconds of an advert through than take a chance with the game.

How fast it flips

The mute typically lands 20 to 30 seconds into the break, and the sound returns shortly after play resumes. You hear the first advert start, then quiet until the game is back. AdBencher waits for confidence before it touches your volume.

Who it's for

Built for cord-cutters watching live sport.

If you watch the game through an over-the-air DVR like Tablo, or an IPTV app like TiviMate, on an Android TV, Google TV or Fire OS box, that is exactly the setup this was built and tested on.

Source appSupportNotes
Tablo, TiviMate, Kodi, YouTube Works The setup this was built for.
YouTube TV, Prime Video, Peacock Limited Copy protection gets in the way. AdBencher works around it where it can.
Netflix Not supported Its copy protection leaves nothing to work with.

Copy-protected apps can change what they allow in any update, so support for them is best effort rather than a promise. The setup wizard checks your apps and tells you what it found.

Good to know: it is built for live sport only, you sideload the APK (it updates itself after that), and muting needs HDMI-CEC volume control, which the wizard checks for you.

Pick your sports

Turn on the sports you actually watch in settings. Fewer categories, fewer odd guesses.

Nothing phones home

No analytics, no uploads. Nothing about what you watch leaves your living room.

Status

Coming soon.

The app works today. What is left is packaging it up and putting it in front of people who are not me. Free during the beta, and maybe a small activation charge someday.
